Departing from Stewart Island, Southern Limits operates charters into the productive waters of New Zealand's southern frontier aboard the Frances II. Built as a 12.5-metre fibreglass commercial fishing vessel, Frances II provides the sea-kindly hull and stability needed for southern conditions, combining generous deck space with ample transit speed to reach the fishing grounds quickly and securely. Skipper Brett represents the fourth generation of a Stewart Island family rooted in local hunting and fishing traditions. That lineage translates into an innate understanding of Foveaux Strait and island waterways, guiding guests directly to rich inshore habitats. Charters run on half-day or full-day schedules, with all professional fishing gear fully supplied for the day. A signature element of the journey is the opportunity to prepare and cook fresh portions of the day's catch directly on board. From hauling lines along rugged coastlines to enjoying a freshly cooked meal in sheltered waters, Frances II offers an authentic and measured southern maritime experience steeped in local maritime heritage.
